Important message about the Samaritan AED

If you have a HeartSine Samaritan AED, you know about a recent business decision by HeartSine, manufacturer of the samaritan® AED and samaritan® PAD product lines, to focus exclusively on the public access and consumer market to meet the growing demand for affordable, easy-to-use devices.

HeartSine is moving to significantly reduce the cost of the Samaritan® PAD while also making enhancements to the device.  As you know, more than 80 percent of sudden cardiac arrest deaths occur in the home.  An affordable, easy-to-use consumer defibrillator would equip lay person responders with a powerful tool during the precious initial minutes in an emergency, and assist you in increasing chances of survival.  Additionally, HeartSine tells us that it has products in the pipeline that will further transform the public access and consumer market and are expected to be available in early 2007.

Because of the decision to focus on public access and consumer devices, as of June 1, 2006, HeartSine will cease to market those items in our product line that are appropriate only for the medical and semi-medical professional market.  A list of those particular lines is attached in Appendix A.  To ensure this period of transition is seamless, HeartSine will:

  • continue to actively service and support the Samaritan® AED products through June 1, 2011;
  • support its existing devices in the market with spare and replacement parts for five years;
  • honor its five-year warranty;
  • offer an optional 2005 Guideline update; and
  • deliver any pending orders of products listed in Appendix A that are confirmed by June 1, 2006 (those products must also be delivered to the customer by June 30, 2006).

HeartSine has asked that we assure you that its Samaritan® AED devices, as configured, are effective, efficient and safe for use on anyone with sudden cardiac arrest.

I look forward to our continued partnership in the delivery of life-saving technology throughout the world.

If you should have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Survival Group at 203-230-3061 or HeartSine directly at 215-860-8100.
